Two remarkable women of faith will inspire the next chapter of House life at Penrith Anglican College.

PAC has announced that its two new Houses will be Ascue House, represented by purple, and Zell House, represented by orange.

Launching in 2027, they will expand the College’s House system from four Houses to six, creating greater opportunities for students to be known and valued, develop as leaders and experience a strong sense of belonging.

Their introduction also marks an important first in the College’s history. Ascue and Zell will be PAC’s first Houses named after women.

Both women were selected for their strong Christian faith and the character they demonstrated throughout their lives. Their stories reflect the PAC values of Compassion, Integrity, Courage, Humility and Perseverance.

Ascue House: purple

Ascue House is named after Anne Ascue (1521–1546), a courageous Christian writer and reformer who lived in England during a time of profound religious change.

Anne was devoted to reading and understanding the Bible, allowing its teachings to shape both her beliefs and her life. At a time when openly expressing those beliefs carried significant personal risk, she spoke boldly about her faith and remained steadfast in her convictions, even under intense pressure.

Her wisdom, courage and confidence in God continue to offer a powerful example of perseverance and faithfulness through adversity.

Students who become founding members of purple Ascue House will have a special opportunity to shape its story from the beginning. Together, they will build a House in which courage grows through challenge, perseverance is encouraged and members help one another take the next faithful step.

Zell House: orange

Zell House is named after Katharina Zell (1498–1562), a Christian writer, teacher and compassionate advocate who lived in Strasbourg during the Reformation.

Katharina used her gifts to teach and encourage others, writing letters, devotional works and theological reflections that strengthened Christians in their faith. She also put her beliefs into action, opening her home to refugees and caring for people experiencing poverty, persecution and displacement.

At a time when it was unusual for women to teach, write and speak publicly, Katharina did so with courage and conviction. Her life demonstrated that strength of character is found not only in standing firm, but also in welcoming others, serving generously and offering practical care.

The first students to join Zell House will help shape a culture of compassion and hospitality, where every person feels noticed, included and valued.

A new chapter for PAC’s House system

Principal Mrs Felicity Grima said the new Houses would strengthen the House experience for students across the College.

“We want every student to feel a sense of belonging in their House, and we want every House to help our students grow in character, community and service.”

Over the coming year, students will help bring Ascue and Zell to life by contributing to the development of new crests, mascots and traditions. Those joining the new Houses will have the rare opportunity to establish a legacy that will become part of the PAC story for generations to come.
